Marian's musical experience is much wider than piano teaching and includes long term membership of the City of Dunedin Choir. She has a Ph.D from the University of Otago where she studied in the Music Department writing a thesis on "The Influence of the Second Viennese School of Composers in New Zealand 1940-1900".

Marian is a freelance music critic for the Otago Daily Times and Radio New Zealand (read the sample reviews).
